I have loved fishing since I was knee high to a flathead. The image of me in a b&w photo holding a flathead caught on a cork handline and pipi bait during a summer holiday at the beach is clearly etched in my fishing memoirs.

Books taught me lots about fishing and especially attracted my attention to the elusive, noble trout. The more I read the more I was entranced by the “glory” and “nobility” of flyfishing. Having only interested a tortoise in my first attempt to catch New England trout on a celta, I was convinced that flyfishing caught more and bigger fish.

Funny how the first thing I caught on a fly I tied myself – a brown nymph – eventually revealed itself after a slow but steady fight to be, yes you guessed it, a tortoise!

Now with nearly twenty years of noble frustration, glorious bad habits and dogged perseverance in flyfishing behind me it is obvious to my friends and family that I love fishing, any way it comes. Carp fishing in Canberra’s Lake Burley Griffin with the kids, bait at the coast, casting celtas for wild brown trout or the 2 weight fly rod on tiny Snowy Mountain creeks, even the freezing late night winter sessions on Lake Eucumbene flogging for the big one that doesn’t get away. I love fishing.

I first got involved with Pro-Angler after using the gear. Top quality gear, great prices and 110% money back guarantee – what more could you want? Well … fishing wouldn’t be fishing without your mates and selling my friends this gear has only helped.

Australia first entered the World Fly Fishing Championships in May 1987 as an invitation team.

This was done on the understandingthat for Australia to be involved in future competitions, an organisation representing our country and recognised by the International Federation of  Sport Fishing, would be formed.

Fly Fish Australia Incorporated (FFA) was formed in 1989 and became the recognised body by the International Federation of Sport Fishing for the purpose of selecting teams to represent Australia.

The Board reserves the certain rights with regard to certain matters in the final team selection process, but this is done through the team selection panel which is charged with the responsibility of ensuring the best team for the competition type is chosen.
There are now essentially two principal rules that apply for fly fishers to gain selection to an Australian Team.
Firstly, they must be financial members of Fly Fish Australia and, secondly, they must have qualified in competitions which comply with the rules of Fly Fish Australia.
